During Thyroid Disease Awareness Month, a ground-breaking new documentary on thyroid disease, Sick to Death!, will have its online premiere on Vimeo. The film uncovers the horrible difficulties that patients often have with getting diagnosed or finding proper treatment.
ThyroidChange is proud to feature and support this important endeavor that will be available on Vimeo. Funded by the Guggenheim Foundation, Sick to Death! is a multi-platform project incorporating a film documentary, animation, medical research and a website. Award-winning documentary producer and thyroid patient Maggie Hadleigh-West will expose the horrors that thyroid patients experience in getting diagnosed or finding adequate, personalized treatment.
She will detail her thirty-year struggle to regain her health along with showcasing other patients who have had similar ordeals. Throughout her lifetime, Maggie saw hundreds of doctors who either disregarded her symptoms, misdiagnosed, or under-treated her.
The documentary explores the testing, diagnosis and treatment of thyroid disease and the medical industry's worldwide failure to attend to the nearly 59 million individuals that suffer from this condition.
"In my experience, thyroid disease, and its accompanying symptoms and related disorders, is a very confusing health challenge. The purpose of this project is not to supply all of the answers, but rather to create a resource for health seekers that can assist in confirming that what they are experiencing may in fact be thyroid-related and to pose the question, 'why is it that patient advocates are taking on the roles and responsibilities of the medical community?' With the assistance of this huge community, the Sick to Death! project seeks to improve the medical establishment’s response to thyroid disease." –Maggie Hadleigh-West
The film features Dr. Kent Holtorf (Holtorf Medical Clinic), Dr. David Borenstein (Manhattan Integrative Medicine), Dr. Thierry Hertoghe (The Hertoghe Clinic), Mary Shomon (Thyroid Health Author and Advocate), Dana Trentini (Hypothyroid Mom Website) and others.
